This is a very positive move towards a more inclusive society and allows potential customers to be more informed about who they are buying from. Additionally, it aims to help these businesses gain traction and visibility.
As a result of the recent momentum in the #BlackLivesMatter movement, there has been a significant increase in search for black owned businesses on Google. See the above graph taken from Google trends as an example of the significant increase in search for the query "black owned businesses" in the months of June and July Worldwide.

Search Engine Land reports additional steps that Google has taken in response to the movement.
- Google said it is teaming up with the U.S. Black Chambers, Inc., an organization that includes 145 Black Chambers of Commerce and 326,000 members nationwide, to spread awareness for the new attribute.
- Google also announced the inaugural class of the Google for Startups Accelerator for Black Founders on Thursday.
- In April, more than 40% of Black business owners reported that they weren’t working, compared to only 17% of white small business owners, according to an analysis of government data reported on by The New York Times.
- In 2018, Google introduced family-led, veteran-led and women-led attributes in Google My Business.
It was announced that Google's June racial equity pledge includes $175 million for Black businesses. Keep up the good work Google!
